DENTURES IN XYZ
What are dentures?
A denture, also called a complete denture, is an oral appliance that replaces natural teeth while also providing support for the cheeks and lips.
What materials are used to make dentures?
- The majority of dentures are constructed of acrylic and can be created in two ways.
- After all teeth have been pulled and the gums have healed, a typical denture is constructed.
- An immediate denture is produced and placed immediately following tooth extraction, allowing the tissues beneath the denture to heal.
- An upper denture is made of acrylic that is often flesh-colored and covers the palate (roof of the mouth).
- To make room for the tongue, a lower denture is formed like a horseshoe.
Plastic, porcelain, or a combination of the two are used to create the teeth. Dentures can be made to fit over endodontically treated teeth, and a complete denture can be linked to dental implants for an even more secure fit.
Dentures will wear out over time and need to be changed or relined to maintain proper jaw alignment. As the bone and gum ridges recede or decrease due to the teeth extraction, the alignment will gradually change. Denture wearers should still get regular dental examinations to check for disease or changes in their oral tissues.
