Before intravenous anesthesia sedation
- Eight hours before the appointment, you may not eat or drink anything (including water). Your prescribed medications may be taken up to four hours before your procedure as long as you drink very little water or as instructed by your doctor
- Make sure your doctor is aware of all medications you are taking, including blood thinners.ding blood thinners.
- Prior to surgery, do not smoke for at least 12 hours. Prior to the day of the surgery, as soon as possible, cut down or stop smoking.
- The patient must be accompanied by a responsible adult to the office, remain in the office while the process is completed, and drive the patient home, as well as stay with him/her for 24 hours after the procedure.
- Within 24 hours of anesthesia, the patient should not operate any machinery or drive a vehicle.
- It is preferred that you wear loose-fitting clothing with elbow-length sleeves, and that you wear low-heeled shoes.
- The patient must remove any jewelry, contact lenses, or dentures at the time of surgery.
- You shouldn’t wear any lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- In the event of colds, sore throats, stomach or bowel problems, please inform the office right away.
- In the case of routine oral medications, please notify Dr. John Doe before your surgical date.
- During the sedation process, it is important to notify Dr. John Doe of ANY illegal drug use.
